Authority
How things change so quickly in our lives at times. They can happen in the twinkling of an eye; so fast.
I know that it won't be long for Jesus to come back for us. I am praying that I will still be alive to be changed in a twinking of an eye. I am looking forward to seeing Him face to face, forever.
It was back in the month of February, that I was rejoicing over God's provision for me and my son. What praise and thanksgiving to God for all that He has done, is doing and will continue to do in our lives.
Then it happened! Accident! On February 16th, it happened! Spencer and I were on our way back home to drop off some groceries and then off to a lesson that my dad wanted to teach him about the use of a snow blower. My dad's dear friend's driveway and sidewalk was to be the
classroom. However, we never made the lesson. For this day, another lesson was to be learned!
For years and years I had continued in a driving act that had never been corrected. It was the act of turning left on a yellow light. I never experienced an accident that had proved me wrong or had ever been pulled over by a policeman to contradict what I was doing. So, I continued thinking that what I was doing was just fine. It wasn't just me, but I found out that a
majority of people were actually doing the same thing that I was doing. It just looked normal. All during my late teen years and adult life up to about when I was 33, I was living on doctrinal teachings that I thought were correct. You couldn't persuade me to believe otherwise. I spent that whole time in my life hanging and believing onto those beliefs. I was steep in it! If I had my son during that time, he would have been thrust into this same belief system because he, at that age, would simply believe because I had believed it. Then, he would have perpetuated this belief system with his own children. Oh, where would it have stopped?
Because of the accident on February 16th, my belief in what I had done in driving and think it to be right was shattered. It was the authority of the policeman that was involved that charged me to know the truth. My eyes were opened. I received the truth. My faults were opened right in the presence of my son. What he was learning from me would stop abruptly at that moment.
By the time I was about 33, The Holy Spirit began to teach me the truth about God's Word. I opened up to God and asked Him to help me, to teach me. It was by God's authority, His Word that changed my life. Up until that time, I was primarily listening to what man was teaching me and not studying God's Word. This time, the Word washed me, cleansed me, corrected me. No more looking back now! I had the truth.
As I continue to praise God about what happened several weekends ago about dinner, I praise Him for His protection. When both cars spun into the opposite lanes, there were no cars there to collide with. They were coming but they had not arrived yet where we were. There were no pedestrians that may have been hurt or killed while we had spun across the road.
What protection for us, the woman in the other car and for those who were not at that point yet. All of this time and no accident. But, this was the day for correction. It could no longer be perpetuated. Who was going to tell us otherwise? Authority! It took all of these years for me to understand this truth and because it was authority that spoke it, my son now knows not to do what I had done for years!
I took a 360 degree change in my life concerning the accident. After the accident, my son, who was driving, was also given that opportunity to stop perpetuating what I had done for years and what I was also showing him by my actions in driving. Why? Because he heard it from authority. There are times that when we go down this road that we continue to do the same thing over again because we believe it to be true and we pretty much validate what we are doing because it seems like since the crowd is doing it, it must be alright!
It was Jesus Who said "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
In 2008 on April 6th, I had a dream about how we can think something to be true because of the vast majority of the people are doing it. Once again, through this accident, the Lord is showing us to make sure that we get our authority from the Word of God; His own Words.
And His Word will stand forever.
May we always stand on His Word! His authority~
Psalm 119:89
"For ever, O LORD, Thy Word is settled in heaven."
Isaiah 40:8
"The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the Word
of our God shall stand forever."
2 Peter 1: 21
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will
of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved
by the Holy Ghost."
Psalm 119: 105
"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and
a light unto my path."
Hebrews 4:12
"For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and
sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to
the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the
joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart."
John 17:17
"Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy Word is truth."
John 20:31
"But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus
is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing ye might
have life through His name."
Luke 21: 33
"Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My Words
shall not pass away. "
